What is an Exercise Physiologist?

Exercise Physiologists are university qualified, allied health professionals who use exercise therapy as their primary treatment modality. Exercise Physiologists are experts in the prescription and delivery of exercise to treat and manage a range of conditions including (but not limited to):
• Musculoskeletal injury and surgical rehabilitation
• Chronic disease (diabetes, cardiovascular disease etc.)
• Cancer rehabilitation
• Mental health conditions
• Women’s health
• Neurological conditions
• Athletic performance

So how can an Exercise Physiologist help you?

A session with an Exercise Physiologist will always start by talking about your goals, finding out what is important to you and what you would like to work on. From there, your Exercise Physiologist will conduct an assessment to get some baseline measures and highlight any areas that may need improvement. This assessment will be tailored around the goals that you have set and will give your Exercise Physiologist the information they need to prescribe the correct exercises for you.

Once the assessment has been completed, your Exercise Physiologist will take you through exercises and the plan that will help you achieve your goals. They will walk you through the plan, demonstrate the exercises and ensure you are performing them correctly and safely. This will not only ensure the exercises are safe and effective but will also help to provide you with the education and confidence to empower you to self-manage over time.
